Renewed visa on passports is not mandatory

The Royal Oman Police (ROP) has clarified that affixing a renewed visa to passports is not necessary. A renewed resident card would serve the purpose.

The ROP clarification follows a wave of doubts raised by residents of the Sultanate of Oman regarding online renewal instead of the traditional stamping of visas on passports.

The ROP sources further said that the new practice, which has been in place for a few weeks, aims to make the visa stamping process easier and more efficient.

“The decision has been taken to stop the stamping of renewal visas on residents’ passports. Just renew the same in the system and the resident card,” a senior ROP official confirmed.

“It does not matter to the individual whether the stamp is on the passport or not, but they will be able to travel and present the resident card as proof of residence,” he added.

However, some people have expressed concern if the same would apply to entry points in other countries, as immigration authorities check visas stamped in passports.

“This decision (not to affix the visa to the passport) is a big step towards ease of travel, but I wonder if the resident card would suffice as proof of my residence in the Sultanate of Oman,” said the businessman Naushad Sulaiman.
